Notre lac - Our Lake

Situé dans la municipalité du canton de Harrington, le long de la route 327, le lac MacDonald est un lac de taille moyenne (environ 3 kilomètres de long par 1 kilomètre de large), bordé à l'ouest par la Rivière Rouge et le lac Papineau, à l'est par une série de petits lacs, dont les lacs Fraser, des Seize îles, Laurel, Argenté et Wentworth, au sud par la rivière Ottawa et au nord par la grande région du parc du Mont-Tremblant.

Le lac MacDonald est constitué de deux plans d'eau principaux : le grand lac McDonald situé au nord et le petit lac MacDonald situé au sud. Les deux sections du lac sont reliés par un bras d'eau surnommé, par les anciens résidents, The narrows. Il comprend deux petites îles dont l'île Brown située à l'entrée sud du grand lac MacDonald. Il est alimenté par plusieurs décharges de montagne et par la rivière Lost River qui a longtemps été le nom du petit hameau le plus rapproché.

Alors que le grand lac MacDonald est relativement peu profond (à peine plus d'un mètre dans certaines sections au centre du lac), le petit lac MacDonald contient certaines fosses de plusieurs dizaines de mètres de profondeur. Dans la section qui relie les deux plans d'eau, on retrouve plusieurs zones marécageuses et des régions humides qui contribuent à l'équilibre environnemental du lac.

Located in the municipality of Harrington along the 327 highway, lake MacDonald is a midsize lake (approximately 3 kilometers long by 1 kilometer wide at it's widest) and is bounded in the west by the Rivière Rouge and Papineau Lake, in the east by various small lakes, Fraser, Seize îles, Laurel, Argenté and Wentworth, in the south by the Ottawa River and in the north by the Parc du Mont-Tremblant area.

Lake MacDonald includes two main bodies of water: the first being Lake MacDonald on the north side and the second being Small Lake MacDonald on the south side. Both sections of the lake are joined by a stretch of water called The Narrows by long time residents. Lake MacDonald also contains two small islands, one of which is called Brown's Island and is situated at the southern entrance of the larger lake. The lake is fed by mountain runoffs and by the Lost River, for which the small municipality situated at the southeast end of the lake is named.

Although Lake MacDonald is a relatively shallow lake (some parts in the center of the lake are barely a meter deep), Small Lake MacDonald has trenches that run a few dozen meters deep. In the section that unites the two parts of the lake, one will find a network off marshes and wetlands that have an important function in maintaining the health of the lake and it's environment.
